ATQ-GRAPHICS is an ongoing investigation into photographs, synthetic images, computers, and other machinery for manufacturing evidence.
The subject responsible has been interfering with images for most of his life. First chemically, in a darkroom under paternal supervision. Later digitally, having discovered that reality could be replaced with polygons provided one possessed sufficient patience and an unreasonable amount of RAM.
There were subsequent encounters with graphics, law, public administration, programming, electronics, and the ancient computer enthusiast's conviction that any machine performing according to specification is merely suffering from a lack of voltage.
Photography survived all of this.
It remains the principal offence.
The work presented here is concerned with the ordinary, the constructed, the technically peculiar, and occasionally the beautiful — although beauty has an excellent public-relations department and should therefore be treated with suspicion.
Images are made because something warrants examination. Machines are investigated because accepting that something just works that way is an admission of defeat. Other experiments occur because nobody sufficiently responsible intervened.
ATQ-GRAPHICS exists as an archive of the resulting material: photographs, graphics, experiments, machines, and whatever else survives inspection.
There is no personal brand.
There is no journey.
There is, however, evidence.
